The locking system is great for younger kids learning to scoot, as it provides extra stability with the scooter always heading in the same direction, while they figure out pushing, standing and braking with the scooter.
This is a bit like having a balance bike with maximum stability, that converts to a normal 3-wheel scooter when you're ready for that progression!
